At the high school and district the teachers and students enjoy and need to use the internet on a daily bases. The teacher's begin the class period by using their computer's in order to check role. The student's especially in CBA or journalism use the computers and the internet in order to do class assignments and/or reports. But all this is hard to do if we don't have the internet. On Friday, September 10, 2010 the fiber optical wires that connect our school to the internet were accidently punctured.
We soon realized that the internet is very much a source that we rely on every single day of our lives. The office was having to do "all calls" for students in the school who were checking out or who needed to just vistit the office. We as students soon realized that there is more going on when we are in our class. People get checked out more than we realize each day.
On Monday morning in CBA, my class could not connect to the internet. This was a little bit frustrating because we use the internet a lot in that class! The internet being down for a week obviously caused classes to do things a little differently. When teacher's were asked to take role, they had to pass around a sheet of paper and have the students write their names on the paper instead of using the computer. Also the grades are connected to the internet so the teachers could not update grades for a week.
Luckily, a work crew was already working by wednesday and had the internet up and running by Friday, September 17, 2010. The students and teachers all seemed to really enjoy that the internet was up and running again. We all realized that we use the internet a lot more than we realized. Our school is very thankful for those who got the internet running again and hopefully we won't have to experience this again in the future and be more appreciative of our school and the resources it provides.
